Single, so what

So yesterday a fellow poet and blogger wrote about an interesting topic that I found very relateable  and decided I would write my views on it as well. What is said topic you ask? It's about feeling ok with being a single woman while  not being closed-minded about the possibility of  changing that status as well. I think for me I've always thought 'you find a man fall in love at a young, get married at a young age, have kids at a young age'...so on and so forth. Then I realize that the time frame I believed I was to have accomplished all those things was rapidly approaching and I was still... single. I felt a little behind and that I needed to hurry and find someone before it was all too late. Time kept passing, and still no man in my life permanently. Eventually I came to realize that I shouldn't rush these things. That's how people wind up in bad relationships and hurt. So I sucked it up and started living the 'I'm single and I love it' way. I am okay with not being in a relationship because I honestly have not come across anyone that is long-term and I believe it's better to be alone than in an unhealthy situation. Too many people these days settle, I have friends that question their own relationships validity and I don't want to be in that predicament. I'm not saying I won't try to see what happens with a guy who at first glance doesn't scream "THE REST OF YOUR LIFE" but I won't expect it to be anything other than what it is. For a while after my last relationship I kind of swore off love. As if that happened with "him" was how every single committment in the future was going to turn out. Luckily I worked through those feelings over time with a LOT of poems written about the subject and some kickbutt lyrics from some of my favorite songwriters reassuring me.  Now I'm open to the prospect of being vulnerable enough to not only love but to be loved. So if it happens it happens right? Right.

Another topic that I wanted to talk about is quite funny actually (at least to me). So with being single and having like one other friend that is single the topic of sex can be a little touchy. I had a discussion with my solitary single friend about this over the weekend, what do you do about sex when your single? Do you do the whole sex in the city/classic movie thing and just commit to a bunch of random hook ups? Or do you just wait it out? Do you find a casual sex friend? Been there, done that, it doesn't work. What do you guys think, any advice?
