THE POET

Talicha J. is a Black, queer poet and teaching artist. She's a Pushcart Prize nominee and was a 2024 Collaborating Fellow at The Poetry Lab. She has competed on stages across the U.S. with Respect Da Mic and Art Amok slam teams. Talicha J. released her debut poetry collection, Falling in Love with Picking Myself Up, in 2015. Her chapbook, Taking Back the Body was published with Beyond The Veil Press in 2024. Talicha J. curates virtual writing & editing sprints, generative workshops, and a monthly submission space. She is a firm believer in the power of writing with community. Her work has been featured in several literary magazines digitally and in print. Her work revolves heavily around body image, sexuality, racism, politics, and the genocides occurring in Palestine, Sudan, The Congo and beyond. 

THE MISSION

Talicha J. strives to provide a body of work that is bold, brave, and vibrant. High value is placed upon being committed to promoting strength, elevating esteem, and fostering validation. Talicha J. delivers gritty art with integrity and incorporates authenticity at its foundation. Unity, equality, and feminism birthed the tagline, We are all in the making, in hopes of reminding others that the work we do is never done but always rewarding.  The work is also best done together which is why Talicha J. is actively building a community that is supportive, inclusive, and produces impactful connections.

THE VISION

To be regarded as an expert in the craft of poetry, becoming a highly sought-after staple in the community. To curate high-value affordable workshop opportunities that are impactful. To be successful in producing and distributing inspirational messaging aimed at tackling body issues and mental health misconceptions. Talicha J. would also like to run her own small press to publish the art and support the writers she believes wholeheartedly in.
